Jay began singing at a very early age on his native island of Grand Bahama. Inspired by legendary artists of the 1960s—particularly James Brown—his early performances and impersonations quickly captured attention and set the foundation for a remarkable career.

As his talent grew, Jay performed extensively throughout The Bahamas and internationally, proudly representing Bahamian music alongside other gifted entertainers. After touring across the United States, he returned home to Grand Bahama and ventured into business, forming his band Hot Ice, which quickly developed a strong and loyal following.
From the vibrant nights at the iconic “Top of the Town” nightclub in the 1970s to unforgettable performances at the “Sultan’s Tent” in the 1980s, Jay Mitchell became one of the most sought-after entertainers of his time.
In the late 1980s, with several local hit albums to his credit, Jay expanded his career further by joining the prestigious Princess Casino Las Vegas–style revue. Under the direction of producers Jerry Jackson and Lou Seiler, he reached new heights as a performer, showcasing even greater depth, versatility, and stage presence.
